Moussolou, the debut album by Oumou Sangare, is a masterpiece of West African music. Released in 1989, the album quickly gained critical acclaim and helped establish Sangare as one of Mali's most prominent artists.
The album's title track, "Moussolou," is a powerful feminist anthem that speaks to the struggles of women in Mali and throughout Africa. Sangare's voice is strong and clear, and her lyrics are both poetic and politically charged.
Throughout the album, Sangare uses traditional Malian instruments such as the kora and balafon to create a sound that is both authentic and modern. Her band, which includes some of Mali's finest musicians, provides a dynamic and rhythmic backdrop for her vocals.
Other standout tracks on the album include "Diaraby Nene," a love song that showcases Sangare's range and emotional depth, and "Ah Ndiya," a danceable track that features infectious rhythms and catchy melodies.

About Oumou Sangare
Oumou Sangaré (born 2 February 1968 in Bamako) is a Malian wassoulou musician. Wassoulou is descended from traditional hunting songs, and is accompanied by a calabash. Many of Sangare's songs concern love and marriage, especially freedom of choice in marriage. Her Moussolou album was an unprecedented West African hit.
