New Orleans Boot Blacks - I Cant Say Mixed Salad

Review by Bert Carson

The album "I Can't Say Mixed Salad" by New Orleans Boot Blacks is a refreshing and eclectic mix of sounds, rhythms, and styles. The band's unique blend of punk, post-punk, and new wave creates an energetic and dynamic vibe that will keep listeners engaged from start to finish.

The album opens with the track "Rabbit Hole," which sets the tone for the rest of the record with its driving bassline, distorted guitar riffs, and catchy chorus. Other standout tracks include "Crawling Back," with its haunting synth melodies and pulsing drums, and "Talking to Myself," a high-energy punk anthem with a killer guitar solo.

Throughout the album, the band's lyrics touch on themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. Lead singer and guitarist, Brian, delivers the lyrics with a raw and impassioned vocal style that perfectly complements the band's energetic sound.

As with Armstrong Hot Five there are no drums. The alto sax player sounds nothing like Stomp (Stump?) Evans to be heard on Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers.

Every one of these pros at their zenith here.  Thank you.  Johnny Dodds is woefully underrated. Benny Goodman marveled at his tone.

More soul, pathos, nuance, skill from a few bars from these men than most musicians of any idiom can evoke in a lifetime.   Johnny Dodds woefully underrated.
He died in 1940, only 48, broke, driving a cab.
