Review by Larry McParland

Salut Belle Acadie is an album by Gilles Losier that celebrates the vibrant culture and heritage of Acadia, a region in Canada with a rich history and unique identity. Losier, a talented singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, has created a collection of songs that showcase his love for the Acadian way of life, blending traditional folk music with contemporary sounds and poetic lyrics.

The album opens with the title track, "Salut Belle Acadie," a joyful and upbeat tune that sets the tone for the rest of the record. Losier's voice is warm and inviting, and his guitar playing is lively and rhythmic, accompanied by accordion, fiddle, and percussion. The songs that follow explore different themes and moods, from the nostalgic "Mon Pays" to the romantic "Marie" and the humorous "La Valse de la Vieille Tante."

Throughout the album, Losier pays tribute to the Acadian culture and history, singing in French and English and incorporating elements of Cajun, Celtic, and country music. His songwriting is vivid and evocative, painting pictures of the landscapes, people, and traditions that define Acadia. The arrangements are tasteful and dynamic, featuring guest musicians such as fiddler Lisa Ornstein and guitarist David Greely.
