Matrix / Runout: JPCD 2001404About Frank Zappa Mothers
American composer, lyricist, songwriter, guitarist, vocalist, bandleader, conductor, producer, filmmaker.
Born 21 December 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
Died 4 December 1993 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Frank Vincent Zappa was of Italian origin, his grandfather having arrived in America from Partinico, Sicily. Frank Zappa grew to be one of the most accomplished composers of the rock idiom, his music combining an understanding and appreciation for such contemporary classical figures as , , and . These influences, coupled with an affection for late '50s doo-wop, rock & roll, and skillful guitar-heavy rock, dominated pop in the '70s. However, Zappa was also a keen satirist, whose reserves of scorn and parody seemed bottomless, and whose wicked sense of humor and absurdity continued to delight his numerous fans -- even when his lyrics crossed the broadest bounds of taste.
Zappa was a prolific record-maker, astutely producing massive amounts of music on his own labels of , , and . And through distribution deals with and . This after long unhappy associations with industry giants like and the now-defunct . In the '80s, Zappa gained the rights to his old albums and began to reissue them, first on his own and then through . Throughout his recording career Zappa stayed consistently at the forefront of technology, investing in equipment, home-studio facilities and vault storage that would enable the fullest control over production of his works.
In 1988 his official autobiography emerged and he embarked on a world tour. Sadly, that was the end of his live performing when, in late 1991, it was confirmed that Zappa was seriously ill with cancer. Nevertheless, his schedule of album releases continued to be rapid. The (ZFT) continued with his wife (aka ) as the figurehead of the ZFT, until her death in 2015. The ZFT produced numerous posthumous releases and remasters of the back catalog. The children inherited the ZFT and remain in the industry, the force behind "Zappa Plays Zappa" as well as an accomplished guitarist in his own right; , and the more reserved .
Inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 (Performer).

I'd like to hear it for the first time every week...
Update: March 28th, 2021, *Not one down-vote!!* - Good ears out there people. Keep up the good work (previous sound/light technician), I toured Canada in the mid-1980's.
This is my Favorite story.
Jammie .....
I had just gotten out of the navy (yeah, the US Navy) in january of 1972. Being home a few days, I visited a next door neighbor. We lit a joint, he put on this album, said I'd love it and went to take a shower. Sitting there for the whole side of this LP. Christ, I hated it. But go figure, as time passed it kinda grew on me. By 1974 it was one of my favorite LP's. I can pretty much sing along as I know all the lyrics to both sides from Call Any Vegetable to Magdalena! Great stuff, folks.
Look at his eyes dude. The picture tells the story, not to mention the music itself.
No Will Lo I do not believe that for a minute. He may have said it but......really?
But, first, they were going to stop in Las Vegas!
"It's off to Las Vegas, to check out the lounges, pull a few handles, and drink a few beers."

Billy Kicks Ass!
Saw this performed live at the Fillmore East. Me and my bud dropped some A. This was in something like 72.73 or so. I still don't know what year it is now! I always, to this day, hear this in my brain always. Maybe i'm a mountain? Maybe i'm Ethel. Whatever.
...oh Ethel my darlin' you know tha tI love you..
right over the secret underground dumps, right near the Jack In The Box on Glen Oakes, where they keep the pools of old poison gas, (hack hack), and obsolete GERM BOMBS!
In honor of Dan Swinford...
All the socal references. Nobody outside LA county will get half the jokes. RIP Frank the Brilliant
Incredibly, Zappa Zappa disapproved all illicit drug use, if you can fathom that...BTW, I love the Johnny Carson theme.
"And to this very day, "Wing Nuts" and Data Reduction Clerks alike, speak in reverent whispers about that fateful night when test stand #1 and the rocket sled itself ("We have ignition!") got lunched! I said: lunched ("Lunched!") by a FAMOUS MOUNTAIN and his SMALL, WOODEN WIFE."
Where's the rest of it?
Her was soooooooo mys-teeeeri-ouuuuuus!
and then he shut the "fuckin" door!!! thanks for one of my favorite lp's for all time!
This never fails to make me laugh :)
She creaked a little bit, and some old birds flew off of her.
