Wynton Marsalis - Eta

Review by Fernando Escribano

Wynton Marsalis' album Eta is a masterpiece of modern jazz. The album features the renowned trumpeter's signature style, blending traditional jazz with contemporary sounds and rhythms. The album is a tribute to Marsalis' father, Ellis Marsalis, who was also a jazz musician and educator. The album opens with the track "Big Train," which sets the tone for the rest of the album with its upbeat tempo and Marsalis' virtuoso trumpet playing. The album also includes several slower, more contemplative tracks, such as "Father Time" and "Sister Cheryl," which showcase Marsalis' ability to convey emotion through his playing. The album's title track, "Eta," is a standout, with its intricate rhythms and Marsalis' skillful use of the mute. Eta is a must-listen for any jazz fan, and a testament to Wynton Marsalis' status as one of the greatest jazz musicians of our time.

I concur with Trevor McDonald. I made a copy of the All American Hero cd back in the 90's. Been looking for a copy ever since.

This was very early in Wynton's career and is on the All American Hero CD (an import). Art Blakey is on drums, Jimmy Williams on piano, Charles Fambrough on bass. I bought this CD in a used record store about 20 years ago.

Some really great playing here. Besides Wynton, who were the musicians and when(at least the year) was this recorded? Thanks
