Comments
Post-Billy & Marilyn 5th material with Flo the lead singer.
On this day in 1978 {April 15th} the Fifth Dimension performed "You Are The Reason (I Feel Like Dancing)" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
I graduated from college in 1978 but for the life of me I don't remember this song at all.
Although I was all for MARILYN & BILLY to go off on their own & see what they could do as a duet & eventually as single artists . MARILYN has ALWAYS been my muse (Phyllis Hyman being #2), that voice that lifts me UP from the depths of pain & heartache replaces it eventually with joy & a better understanding of how to help others to deal with their grief & loss & help to make their journeys easier .. However I must say the 5th really got screwed by MOTOWNS lack of pushing this album .. Terri Bryant's GOOD LOVE is GREAT, STAR DANCING was a hit, LOVED, YOU ARE THE REASON I FEEL LIKE DANCING, GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS was GREAT (no matter if Marjorie or Terri sang it),I liked SLIPPING INTO SOMETHING NEW .. Could have been their new sound & start to re-energizing the group .. Between CLIVE DAVIS screwing them by pulling their "Soul & Inspiration" album & taking " No Love In The Room" from the DJ's (when it had already climbed to #15) & ending their contracts & then this .. They did not seemingly get a lot of good breaks at the end ..
The 5th Dimension sounds more like a R&B group with this song and this song should have put them back on top of the charts.
this is a great song and i totally can hear 'keep on truckin' lol i love them both!
One play and I'm hooked! I've never heard this before- nearly 40 years late to the party! A great track that should have been a hit
@stage7 I like both versions. Given the time that this record came out, the vocalist had to be either Marjorie Barnes (who replaced Marilyn McCoo) or Terri Bryant, who replaced Marjorie. In between the ABC record and the Motown records (only a year or so), the 5th lost both Ron Townson and Marjorie. A year later Danny Beard was gone, and Florence took full control of the group. Even as we speak, Lamonte is suing Florence, although it's not clear why--I would assume rights to the name
@stage7 And Thanks for the heads-up too! I shall go find it! Thanks again friend!
