Review by Brian Ellis

The album Quatuor Nº 1 Sonate À Kreutzer Quatuor Nº 2 Lettres Intimes Sur Un Sentier Broussailleux by Leoš Janáček, performed by Le Quatuor Talich, is a stunning collection of chamber music. The quartet's interpretation of Janáček's work is both technically precise and emotionally charged, capturing the composer's unique style and vision.

In the first piece, Quatuor Nº 1 Sonate À Kreutzer, the quartet navigates the complex rhythms and interweaving melodies with ease, creating a sense of tension and release that is both exhilarating and moving. The second piece, Quatuor Nº 2 Lettres Intimes Sur Un Sentier Broussailleux, is a more introspective work, with a hauntingly beautiful opening and a sense of melancholy that permeates throughout.

Le Quatuor Talich's performance is outstanding, with each member of the quartet bringing their own unique voice to the music. Their attention to detail and dynamic range is impressive, creating a truly immersive listening experience.

About Leoš Janáček, Le Quatuor Talich

Czech composer, musical theorist, folklorist, music writer and teacher. Born July 3, 1854 in Hukvaldy, Moravia (former Austrian Empire), died August 12, 1928 in Ostrava (former Czechoslovakia). He was inspired by Moravian and all Slavic folk music to create an original, modern musical style. Until 1895 he devoted himself mainly to folkloristic research and his early musical output was influenced by contemporaries such as Antonín Dvořák. His later, mature works incorporate his earlier studies of national folk music in a modern, original synthesis. Janáčeks later works include the symphonic poem Sinfonietta, the oratorial Glagolitic Mass, the rhapsody Taras Bulba, string quartets, other chamber works and many original operas.
