Led Zeppelin - Groove

Review by Fivi Kurniawati

Led Zeppelin's sixth studio album, Groove, released in 1980, showcases the band's versatility and musical evolution. The album features a mix of hard rock, funk, and reggae, and stands out from the band's previous works due to the inclusion of synthesizers and drum machines.

The album's opening track, "In the Evening," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its heavy riffs and powerful vocals. "Fool in the Rain" is a standout track that incorporates a Latin-inspired groove and showcases drummer John Bonham's skills. "Carouselambra" is a nine-minute epic that features complex arrangements and layered synthesizers.

Despite the departure from their usual sound, Led Zeppelin manages to stay true to their roots with tracks like "South Bound Saurez" and "Wearing and Tearing," which feature classic hard rock riffs and driving beats.

Is the organ solo pure improv or is there a name for the tune? Specifically the 1:00:00 mark

Hate to say it, but I was there that night oh so long ago. Life was never the same after that night.

What a find! I was there. Freshman year at UNC. Acoustics in Dorton? Well we know that story. But what an experience. To hear it again in 2021 is special. Thank you for putting this out there.

Raleigh, NC is my hometown. I was only 9 in 1970. I was too young for this show. So glad to be able to hear this. Thank you Boots and Susan!

This was my first concert and being able to hear it here has brought back incredible memories! I thought I remembered John Bonham's drum solo being part of the Lemon Song, but they did not even play that that night. The show started way late and then they had to stop to fix a sound issue. When they came back they said they were gonna rock all night and they did! I see some set lists only show the songs on this tape, but i through I remembered the show was longer and find the ledzeppelin site shows after Moby Dick they played: How Many More Times (medley includes: Stormy Monday, Bottle Up and Go, Long Distance Call), Whole Lotta Love, and Communication Breakdown. There are few things in life that come out just right, this being my first concert was one of those things for me. Thanks for posting this!

I'm glad I found this. I was there. I saw a lot of great bands in the late 60s and 70s. This one is #1 on my list when I rank the concerts I saw. Jimi Hendrix at Dorton Arena is also near the top of the list. Dorton used to pull some amazing bands.

Very enjoyable. Thanks Boots!
I knew a guy named Bill Baker from Carolina Beach N. C. who attended this concert. And he told me you have to see them live to appreciate how great they are. He also mentioned that the PA system cut out briefly and that Plants voice was so powerful that you could still hear his vocals while they played. I’m assuming he was right but I unfortunately wasn’t there .

With respect, her name is Susan Hedrick. I met her in 1988 and she was instrumental in helping me join the tape-trading circles and building my collection. What a wonderful person, though I haven't spoken to her in ages. I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska in the first half of the 80s right down the street from her but had no idea such an incredible Zeppelin collection was practically next door, ha ha. When she mailed her tape list to me my jaw hit the floor. Up until then I only knew about vinyl bootlegs. She was featured in Rolling Stone in an article about "super fans".
