King Pleasure - Interpretation Of Moods

Review by Jean-Yves Besle

Interpretation of Moods is a classic jazz album by King Pleasure that showcases his unique vocal style and improvisational skills. Released in 1960, the album features a mix of original compositions and covers of jazz standards, all of which are performed with impeccable precision and soulful expression.

The album opens with the upbeat and swinging "Red Top", which sets the tone for the rest of the album. Pleasure's scatting and use of vocalese on this track is particularly impressive, as he effortlessly weaves his voice in and out of the horns and rhythm section.

Other standout tracks on the album include the bluesy "Swan Blues", the Latin-infused "Golden Days", and the hauntingly beautiful "Parker's Mood". Pleasure's ability to convey a wide range of emotions through his voice is truly remarkable, and his interpretations of these classic jazz tunes are nothing short of masterful.
