Review by Vineet Kumar

Sanford Clark's album, A Cheat Usta Be My Baby, is a classic example of rockabilly music. Released in 1960, the album features 12 tracks that showcase Clark's unique voice and style. The album starts off with the title track, which is a catchy tune with a great beat that sets the tone for the rest of the album.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Fool," which was a hit for Clark and helped cement his place in the rockabilly scene. The song has a great melody and Clark's vocals are top-notch. Another great track is "It's Nothing to Me," which has a slower tempo but still manages to be a powerful song.

The album also features several covers of classic rockabilly songs, including "Ubangi Stomp" and "Ooo Baby." These songs are a lot of fun and showcase Clark's ability to put his own spin on classic tunes.

About Sanford Clark

Sanford Clark (born October 24, 1935, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA died July 4, 2021, Joplin, Missouri, USA) was an American country-rockabilly singer and guitarist. Clark found fleeting fame with his rendition of the Lee Hazlewood-penned song "The Fool" in 1956, which peaked in the Top Ten of the pop charts and Top 15 of the country charts, but was his only significant hit. After the success of "The Fool" he began a promotional tour opening for stars such as Ray Price and Roy Orbison, but after a string of recordings which failed to perform well, Clark gave up on professional musicianship and instead ran a successful construction business for most of his life. Sanford continued to occasionally distribute music through his Desert Sun record label following his departure from the music business.

One of the greatest combinations of rockabilly, rock & roll and country music: Lee Hazlewood, Al Casey, Duane Eddy, Sanford Clark, and Phoenix's right-place-at-the-right-time studio, Audio Recorders. (Add Donnie Owens and Loy Clingman to the mix as well.) Co-writer and also an important element in the mix is Naomi Shackleford Hazlewoodr; from Discogs, "Naomi Ford songwriting pseudonym of Lee Hazlewood's first wife. Many of her credits were in fact written by Hazlewood."

I had this for years by the "Earls of Suave" and only realized this minute it was a cover. Thanks again for the titillation and enjoyment.

This is pure Rockabilly. Not rock n roll at all, it is to close to country music.
