Thank you so much for finding that. I remembering this being on the B-side of my dad's 45 of the Green Door by Jim Lowe. THAT song mesmerized me "an Eyeball peeking through Smokey door" was such an interesting yet scary concept when you're in elementary school in the 1960s. As a child, I always felt bad that they didn't let him in the Green Door.
The moral of the story is:
He was a little man indeed!
He was a little man indeed!
I have a copy of this record. My grandfather, who was a radio disc jockey back in the 50s, actually knew Jim Lowe.
Here again to listen in honor of Einstein the Pug. Our Little Man from Chinatown.

How rude of Americans!!!
Racist !!
Finally found out who the killer pianist is on this track. It is the songwriter Bob "Hutch" Davie, who also plays piano on the hit A-side, "The Green Door."
what the heck' is this song about..
my dad taught me to sing this song when I was three.
Killer piano! My favorite part, though, is that we never learn what the Little Man did one afternoon, or then one day. I wondered what the story is, but I guess the Little Man was just little.
LOVE!
Sorry it didn't stick but my memory is gone anyway.
In the 50's.... not now.... I always loved a & b and danced around the house while my bro and I played them. I lost a bunch of 45's and this was one. The Charioteers was another fave group but they were from the late 40's and they are missing from my depleted collection also. Thanks for these memory packed songs.
This was the flip side of Green Door and I listened to it over and over. While the music is captivating, the lyrics create an unfulfilled anticipation of closure that never happens. It leaves me feeling good because of the rythm and the music, but the little man got off the cable car and disappeared into the city. It is a story that happens a 100 times a day and Jim Lowe captured the brief encounter and intrigue in these brilliant lyrics.
It is a great B-side song. Thanks for listening to this Jim Lowe 78 rpm recording...Friends, Lloyd.
Great Shaggy Dog Story.......thanks!
I hope you find that record and post it, I would like to see what it looks like from your description. It might be a rare copy you have? Thanks for checking out this Jim Lowe 78 recording...Friends, Lloyd.
Takes me back a few years. I had a second-hand record of this from a dimestore, also Dot but with a big 45 rpm hole in the middle and I think the label was yellow, but my memory's a bit unsure on that one. Wonder if it's still amongst the clutter up in the attic ... Get round to finding out one of these days ... Coupled with Green Door, I think.
I agree!!
What the hell was the point of that?

This is a novel B-side, and it is hard to find on current formats.
