what does the A side sound like?
?
A beautiful song ...
After 3 years of waiting, I finally ordered this 78 from eBay, and it’s a standard purple label, not this one, and it contains the flip “Why Should I Love You” an upbeat song.
I recent got this 78 and I played it on my 1926 Victor Orthophonic Victrola VV 8-4 for the first time. Don’t worry, It’s my record, and I’m using a Victor Orthophonic reproducer which was common for electrical recordings using a soft tone needle. I played this and the flip “Why Should I Love You” and it sounded just fine, and I’m not going to damage my copy of this 78.
And I forgot to mention, I tried to play it on my recent acquisition, my Sonora Barcarolle tabletop phonograph from about 1920 or 1921 and it does sound fine, and it’s loud when it was coming through a horn.

I saw this on eBay and I would love to get more Harptones 78 someday. I recently acquired "A Sunday Kind of Love" last week which is a 78 that has an alternate take than the 45 that I have.
The flip is a much mid-tempo song "Why Should I Love You?

This is kinda like when you’re cheated on and they want you back so you’re like “why should I love you”
I love it.
I just got through reading some of the comments, and it's the cartridge, yes it sounds really nice. One of the audio things I recently found impressive, not a cartridge, but a vacuum tube, the 6SR7, a preamp tube. Awsome bass tone.
@PJDooWop Hey just come across your coments - thanks for the info! Over here in the UK we have the expert stylus company, that can re-tip. I am using a stanton cart at the momement, but I agree - great sound from your AT-cartridge
Repost? Does that mean you re-recorded it as a WAV format instead of a (y e c c h) MP3 format? That's how I do it. As I listen to it that's how it sounds like. Take for instance the scratches on the record, they don't have that flangy effect like one would hear on MP3 recordings. Everything on this recording sounds more natural - good job PJ!
I love the sound of this cart too. I ended up dismounting it because I need to put it on a longer headsheel. The alignment was a little bit off and I was getting some inner groove distortion towards the end of the records.
In my opinion, a true mono cartridge is best for 78's. It will reject vertical movement which means a lot less rumble and noise overall

What's really great about this MC cart is that it is high output so you don't need a step-up transformer.
The downside to this cart is that like most moving coil carts you cannot replace the stylus. You'll need to either buy a whole new cart or send it out to get re-tipped. Still, not a huge deal when you get this kind of sound :)
really great sound! I need a new cartridge, and thinking about getting a 78rpm only cartridge for my 78's - the sound on this moving coil cartridge sounds really great!
Harptones are great!
