It could be his highest charting song, but Ah Leah is his biggest track without doubt. Great songs.
Haven't heard this - until now - since it first came out. Was in high school, just started driving and heard it on the radio fairly often that year (1982)
My roommate and friend back in the 80's was a huge Donnie Iris fan and I've never heard him play this song.
Loved this then love it now ❤️lovin on it 3/17/21. Happy StPatricks Day ☘️
I've read (I forget where) that Anges and Leah were Donnie Iris' first and second wives, respectively--even though I now read that Donnie's partner Mark Avesic says "Ah! Leah!" isn't about anyone in particular, and saying that she happened to be a girl "dating" a Jaggerz member, without singling Donnie out. And yet I distinctly remember reading about Leah being an ex-wife of Donnie in the write-up to the "Back On The Streets" album on Fye's in-store database, as well as perhaps another source. IS IT TRUE?! If so, would someone refer me to a source documenting/mentioning Iris' marital history, so I can add the fact to the Wikipedia articles about Donnie Iris and "Ah! Leah!" (and possibly "Agnes"); you know that with Wikipedia it's not what you know but what you can prove.. (And if not, some musical historians must have got their facts mixed up at a highly reputable vendor!) I'd like a reply ASAP.
The bass player in the drummer at the end of the song have always been one of my favorite rhythm section grooves !!
I love this song. It’s got a funky bass line. I would love to learn it.
Good doo-wop, from Donnie.
Awesome song! One of the best of 1982!
LOVED THIS SONG!
Love of Donny Iris just never got to me when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s but I remember well his other two big ones and I suddenly remember that I know this one and haven't heard it in quite a while, but I never put it together with Donny Iris. NOW, I'll have to survey all the DI that I missed and sigh about how I just never realized before! Lol
Is this the karaoke version? It's all bkgnd vocals. The lead is cancelled.
I have no memory of this song. But I love it!
Two great early 80's songs that sound similar: "My Girl" by Donny Iris and "Sweetheart" by Frankie & The Knockouts:)
