Review by anthony tompos

Buddy Emmons' album Steel Guitar Jazz Four Wheel Drive is a masterful display of the steel guitar as a lead instrument in jazz music. The album features Emmons' virtuosic playing on the steel guitar, accompanied by a talented group of musicians on drums, bass, piano, and guitar.

The album's opening track, "Four Wheel Drive," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its driving rhythm and intricate solos. Emmons' playing on "Little Rock Getaway" is a standout, showcasing his technical skill and melodic sensibility. "Blues for Dixie" is a soulful, bluesy number that allows Emmons to stretch out and explore the depths of his instrument.

Throughout the album, the interplay between Emmons and his bandmates is impressive, with each musician contributing to the overall sound and feel of the music. The album's final track, "Wichita Lineman," is a beautiful rendition of the classic Glen Campbell song, with Emmons' steel guitar taking center stage and providing a fitting conclusion to the album.
