Review by Elites of Change

The album Come On In Were Pickin And Singin by Wandering' Five is a delightful experience for fans of bluegrass and country music. The band's smooth harmonies and lively instrumentation create a warm and inviting atmosphere that is sure to get listeners tapping their toes and singing along.

The album features a mix of original compositions and classic covers, all delivered with the Wandering' Five's signature style. From the upbeat opener "Pickin' and Grinnin'" to the haunting ballad "The Long Way Home," the band showcases their versatility and skill.

One standout track is "Riding the Rails," a rollicking tune that captures the spirit of the American West. With its driving rhythm and catchy chorus, it's impossible not to get swept up in the song's energy.

The first folk music album I ever bought. Over 60 years agi !
This album contains the first songs I ever heard from Jean Ritchie (although you don't mention her), and since this album from the early 60s is long lost I have been searching for these recordings everywhere. Thank goodness I finally thought of looking on YouTube! My Dear Companion and Paper of Pins were two of my favourites as a child of about 10 or 11. Ritchie did another version of Paper of Pins with Oscar Brand that's also worth a listen, but this is still the one I remember best. Although these songs are in the less than authentic folk style of the early 60s (a wee bit like the Kingston Trio), I still enjoy them because they take me right back to that time. Thanks for uploading this. I can still sing all these songs from heart, just as I did then.

Of all the great jazz albums and books my father introduced me to for some reason this album is my favorite possession that was his, once upon a time... he loved this album and the call of the whippoorwill and the far away sound of a train deep in the night.

I used to play this album my parents had when I was a kid. John Henry was on a loop. Haven't found another version quite like it. Man, this brings back memories.

My old Mom used to play this album on her record player when I was just 5 years old. That was 41 years ago. I never thought I'd find it again. Thanks for putting it up here.

I purchased this LP almost 40 years ago...our children learned to sing these versions of the old folk songs. And, it was a way to introduce our "handed down" music, telling them how these versions differed from those sung by my ancestors.
