The Rough Guide To Celtic Women is a compilation album featuring various female artists from Ireland, Scotland, and other parts of the Celtic world. The album offers a diverse range of traditional and contemporary Celtic music, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and artistic talents of these women.
The album opens with the hauntingly beautiful voice of Enya in "May It Be," the theme song from the Lord of the Rings movie. The following tracks feature a mix of traditional and modern Celtic music, including the lively fiddle tunes of Sharon Shannon, the soulful ballads of Mary Black, and the ethereal vocals of Moya Brennan.
One of the standout tracks is "Caledonia" by Dolores Keane, a poignant tribute to Scotland that captures the longing and nostalgia of the Celtic diaspora. Other notable tracks include "The Water is Wide" by Karen Matheson, "The Hills of Connemara" by Clannad, and "The Parting Glass" by Cara Dillon.
