Review by Dr. David Smuin

Dread In A Africa is a classic album by the Jamaican reggae artist, U-Roy. Released in 1978, this album features U-Roy's signature sound of toasting and lyrical prowess. The album is a mix of roots reggae and dub, with a socially conscious message that reflects the struggles of African people.

The album opens with the title track, "Dread In A Africa," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. U-Roy's voice is commanding and powerful, and his lyrics are filled with messages of hope and revolution. Other standout tracks on the album include "Black Star Liner," "Natty Rebel," and "African Message."

One of the most impressive things about this album is the way that U-Roy seamlessly blends his toasting with the music. The rhythms are tight and the basslines are heavy, creating a sound that is both groovy and militant. The album is also notable for its use of dub techniques, which add an extra layer of depth and atmosphere to the music.
