Ted Egan - Our Coach Captain

Review by Ma Rio

Ted Egan's latest album, Our Coach Captain, is a heartfelt tribute to the unsung heroes of the Australian outback - the bus drivers who navigate treacherous roads and transport passengers across vast distances. The album is a collection of 12 songs, each one telling a different story of the people and places that make up the unique landscape of Australia.

Egan's signature storytelling style is on full display in this album, with each song painting a vivid picture of the characters and events he is singing about. The title track, "Our Coach Captain," is a stirring ballad about the bravery and resilience of the men and women who drive long-distance coaches through the outback, while "The Road to Alice" is a rollicking tune about the adventures and mishaps that can happen on a long journey.

Throughout the album, Egan's voice is backed by a talented group of musicians who bring his songs to life with their skillful playing. The arrangements are simple and understated, allowing the lyrics to take center stage and the listener to fully appreciate the stories being told.
