She had such a soulful voice. With as much soul as Tammy Wynette at her best. In my mind only Patsy Cline could do it better, when it came to soulfulness in Country Music. But Patsy was in a class by herself.
I still say "every country song is someone's life story" and most of us can relate to em' or we've been there and done that.
Sammi was one of the Greats! She just had a voice that made you feel like she " felt the songs she sang?" Look at her pictures on her albums.. A lot of sadness ? RIP

Sammi brings memories back in 72 when I first heard her. She should have been in the same book as the other great females singers. Damn I will be looking for more songs from her. Anyone know if her songs are on a CD;

Sammi recorded an album on Mega label. It contains Saunders Ferry Lane, With Pen in Hand and other songs that were her best.

Sammi was a great Country Soul diva who should have made the big time as you intimated in your comments, Wilbur. She was a very unique talent whose passing is very much lamented.
What's so bad in life is we will never see these people again after they are gone. The only thing we have left is their remenbrance and songs.
Most people only remember Sammi Smith for Help Me Make It Through the Night, but I agree with you in that she had a very nice voice. I am not sure what held her back from being a bigger star.
