Sagittarius - My World Fell Down Hotel Indiscreet

Review by Vimlesh Tailor

Sagittarius' My World Fell Down Hotel Indiscreet is a masterful blend of psychedelic pop and orchestral arrangements. The album, released in 1968, showcases the talents of songwriter and producer Gary Usher and a group of session musicians who were part of the famous "Wrecking Crew" in Los Angeles.

The opening track, "My World Fell Down," is a catchy and upbeat tune featuring lush harmonies and a soaring string section. The album continues with songs that are both whimsical and introspective, such as "The Truth Is Not Real" and "The Keeper of the Games."

The standout track on the album is "Hotel Indiscreet," a hauntingly beautiful ballad that showcases the vocal talents of singer Glen Campbell. The song's lyrics tell the story of a man who falls in love with a woman he meets at a hotel, only to discover that she is married.

They weren't in unison at 2:43.

Classic California baroque pop piece, really well produced, although I don't dig the Musique Concrete bridge in the middle or the A capella part. It's experimental but probably ruined any chance of this making the top 40, which I feel it could have otherwise done. "Another Time" is worth a listen also.

It's ironic the single version is longer than the album version.

Peaked at No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1967. Great little tune. Those random sound effects in the middle are kinda strange, though. The alarm and the baby like cries.

This is so very beautiful.  I have your version of "My World Fell Down" (MONO).  This version that you have is the REAL version, I think, because the stereo version is cut and lacks the baby crying and the marching band playing.  Thank you for sharing this masterpiece!!!!!!!!

This is a more obscure oldies song, and it must be a "one hit wonder" group, because I don't recall hearing other notable songs by them. Thanks for giving it a listen!...Friends, Lloyd.

Wasn’t Glen Campbell in this group at this time or not for this record?

@SkidRowJim Yeah, that was such a shock to me. They never told me they were putting that into my song so it wasn't until much later that I listened to the longer version that they put in the LP. I couldn't believe they actually did that. Most unusual thing I've ever heard!!

Songwriters were Michael Z. Gordon and Jimmy Griffin. Gordon is now a successful movie producer and Griffin joined Bread and had 10 hits in a row. Jimmy died in 2005. He was a great singer and a great friend.
