Ruby began singing in a trio at Lake Manitou in Indiana until she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to sing band and dance music. Wright was featured as a vocalist with the Barney Rapp Orchestra and with his band, Barney Rapp and His New Englanders in the 1930's. She also sang on the radio on WLW, and for twenty years, appeared on the Ruth Lyons show, "50-50 Club."
Wright charted twice in the U.S. and twice in the U.K. Her single, "Bimbo" reached #7 in the United Kingdom in 1954. Her most popular recording was a Christmas single, "Let's Light the Christmas Tree" that sold 250,000 copies in 1958--it charted to #54 in the U.S. She charted again in 1959 with "Three Stars
