Review by Dale Nash

The album Bolero Rapsodie Espagnole Daphnis Et Chloe Suite No2 Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunte by Ravel Pariškim Orkestrom, dirigira Charles Munch is a beautiful compilation of classical music that is sure to delight any music lover. The orchestral arrangements are expertly executed, with each instrument blending seamlessly into the whole.

The album begins with the hauntingly beautiful Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunte. The strings are particularly noteworthy in this piece, with their rich, full-bodied sound creating a sense of depth and emotion that is truly moving.

The Rapsodie Espagnole is another highlight of the album, with its lively rhythms and intricate melodies. The brass section in particular shines in this piece, with their bold, brassy tones adding a sense of power and energy to the music.

The Daphnis Et Chloe Suite No2 is perhaps the most well-known piece on the album, and for good reason. The orchestration is masterful, with each section of the orchestra contributing to the overall sound in a unique and meaningful way. The music is at times ethereal and otherworldly, and at others, it is bold and triumphant.

About Ravel Pariškim Orkestrom , Dirigira Charles Munch

Born: March 7, 1875 (Ciboure, France). Died: December 28, 1937 (Paris, France). Joseph Maurice Ravel was a French composer, pianist and conductor. He is often associated with impressionism along with his elder contemporary Claude Debussy, although both composers rejected the term. In Ravel's piano compositions you can find harpsichord style ideas, references to the Baroque, impressionist procedures and reminiscences of romantic pianism. His music is characterized by a refined timbre and harmonic research; even if its layered and dissonant harmonic structures still remain in the tonal sphere, the traditional harmonic relationships are brought to an extreme tension (particularly in the last works). His orchestral compositions are detached from the Germanic symphonic tradition, in these works the rhythmic and timbral elements are highlighted as well as themes inspired by Spanish folklore can be found. Ravel's entire production, from the youthful and brilliant "Quartet for strings" (1902-1903) to the "Piano Concerto for the left hand" of 1931, is a succession of precious works that are to be considered among the masterpieces of the music of twentieth century In the 1920s and 1930s Ravel was internationally regarded as France's greatest living composer.

My teacher, Pasquale Cardillo, played the E flat clarinet solo in this clip. He nailed it, despite the near impossibility of a tempo close to 200. I myself find this E flat clarinet part to be terrifying, yet rewarding if pulled off. I very much agree with others that it was most gracious of Mr. Munch to acknowledge Mrs. Dwyer as he did. This 1962 performance was part of what was perhaps the golden age of the BSO; it was an orchestra of great virtuosity, led by a conductor who pushed their limits in creating exciting performances. Although I find the tempo here to be too fast for my taste, it was incredible! RIP, Mr. Cardillo, my teacher and good friend. Kind regards./Warren Barnes, Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra

I love this movement from Daphnis and Chloe! Maestro took that mug at a blistering 190 bpm, give or take -- perfect! Anything below 180 is too slow and stodgy, in my book! Perfect performance? Probably not. Lively and exciting performance! You betcha!! Kudos and bravo!! ???
