Frankie was a casualty of doo wop giving way to Motown. That plus the fact he was a kid with a shark for a manager. His dad wasn’t in the picture and it appears his mother really wasn’t either. How does a 15 year old get hooked on smack. Like many musicians they were fed that stuff to keep them singing and stupid to what was going on with their $$$.
