Review by Linda Price

Blitzkreig Bop, the debut album by American punk rock band Ramones, is a timeless classic that continues to inspire and influence generations of music lovers. The album, released in 1976, features 14 fast-paced tracks that showcase the band's raw energy, catchy melodies, and rebellious spirit.

From the opening track "Blitzkreig Bop" to the closing number "Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World," the album is a non-stop barrage of power chords, pounding drums, and sing-along choruses that will make you want to jump, shout, and dance. The Ramones' distinctive sound, characterized by Joey Ramone's distinctive vocals, Johnny Ramone's aggressive guitar playing, Dee Dee Ramone's driving bass lines, and Tommy Ramone's frenzied drumming, is on full display throughout the album.

Highlights include the anthemic "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," the infectious "53rd & 3rd," and the hilarious "Beat on the Brat." But every track on the album is a gem, and together they form a cohesive and exhilarating listening experience that never gets old.

Blitzkreig Bop is not only a great punk rock album but also a landmark in the history of music. It paved the way for countless bands that followed in the Ramones' footsteps and helped define the punk rock genre. The album's influence can still be heard in the music of bands like Green Day, The Offspring, and Blink-182, among others.

Imagine it's 1976: Disco & Stadium Rock are at their heights, and New Wave is a few years away. You just got the Ramones' self-titled album, perhaps on a whim, perhaps from a friend who said: You gotta hear this!" Either way, you put it on for the first time, and this is the first song you hear: rapid-fire down-stroked barre chords, no guitar solo, the same lyrics repeated three times, and of course, that chant of *"HEY HO, LET'S GO"* at the beginning & end; all in only two & a quarter minutes. This is something never-before-heard, and just as you become aware of that, _Beat on the Brat_ begins, following the same structure. By that point, you realize you're hearing something original, and Rock music will never be the same.
