Review by David Valley

The album Beethoven 6 Sinfonie F Dur Op 68 Pastorale by Beethoven, performed by the Tschechische Philharmonie and conducted by Paul Kletzki, is a masterpiece of classical music. The album features five movements that take the listener on a journey through the countryside, evoking the beauty and tranquility of nature.

The first movement, "Awakening of cheerful feelings upon arrival in the countryside," begins with a gentle, flowing melody that gradually builds to a joyful crescendo. The second movement, "Scene by the brook," is a serene and peaceful interlude that captures the sound of a babbling brook. The third movement, "Merry gathering of country folk," is a lively and energetic dance that conjures images of a festive celebration.

The fourth movement, "Thunderstorm," is a dramatic and intense piece that conveys the power and fury of a storm. The final movement, "Shepherd's song; happy and thankful feelings after the storm," brings the album to a peaceful and joyful conclusion, with a beautiful melody that expresses gratitude and contentment.

German composer and pianist, born in 1770 (baptized 17 December 1770) in Bonn, Germany and died 26 March 1827 in Vienna, Austria. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in classical music. Beethoven led Viennese Classicism to its highest development and paved the way for Romantic music. Beethoven was the eldest son of a singer in the Kapelle of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne and grandson of the Archbishop's Kapellmeister. He moved in 1792 to Vienna, where he had some lessons from Haydn and others, quickly establishing himself as a remarkable keyboard-player and original composer. By 1815 increasing deafness made public performance impossible and accentuated existing eccentricities of character, patiently tolerated by a series of rich patrons and his royal pupil the Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven did much to enlarge the possibilities of music and widen the horizons of later generations of composers. To his contemporaries he was sometimes a controversial figure, making heavy demands on listeners both by the length and by the complexity of his writing, as he explored new fields of music.

I am a Japanese old man. When I began to listen to classical music way back in1968, conducting Beethoven's symphonies was usually associated with Furtwängler's style. I could appreciate musical power, depth and dignity of his, but at the same time, his way sounded a little old-fashioned. Then one day I happened to listen to No4 on the radio. Paul Kletzki was the conductor. Instantaneously I liked him, for not only his way much more modern but also keeping the traditional style. Like René Leibowitz, Kletzki is not a famous conductor, but I am positive he is a first-rate one when it comes to Beethoven's symphonies.

Can't thank y'all enough for the upload!!!! UNEQUALLED. The genius of THIS recording appears in 3D when you read Maestro Paul's biography, about how the early years of this child prodigy were steeped in horror and about his miraculous preservation, much like Cziffra's. You listen in awe and the baton of Paul Kletzki's sheer genius makes you FORGET all the usual suspects and flashy names of Deutsche Grammophon's overhyped cult like superstars. Since my tender age of 13, aeolian aons ago, I've tried them all, but can listen to only ONE, to wit THIS particular recording, which i identify as The Gold Standard of and for all times. Paul Kletzki and the Czech Philharmonic simply reign supreme as The Best and lord it over the rest. Thank The Good Lord for giving us YouTube, you guys, Beethoven and maestro Paul Kletzki, and for miraculously preserving him during all the horrors of his early life, for inspiring our fine music teacher to play THIS particular recording for us way back when the classical record batches were being invaded by the hoardes of Deutsche Grammophon and this here record could only be had on special request and order. Also my special thanks posthum to my late mother for the subsequent lovely Vinyl 33' Christmas gift.
As Schiller puts it: Seid umschlungen, Millionen, diesen Kuss der ganzen Welt! LOL.
