The Film, The Gentleman brought me here, OK the track wasn't even in the movie, Paul Jones of Manfred Man had his Free Me played and after a long journey I arrived here, reliving my Scooter ? rally days and wondering where the time had gone. Unfortunately the sun is settling on my generation, I hope the youth can capture the adrenaline rushing, blood pumping sounds of Northern Soul, it was a way of life !! KTF
Great single. Seeing the Manfreds tonight at the Regent Centre.
tune!
One of my faves,xx
Mods liked this too (in 1964!)
wigan casino 1978! my mums fav!
Huge dance halls heaving with wizzed up sweating scooterboys and scootergirls dancing for their lives, tugging hard on cigarettes, still holding a beer and not spilling it. Thank god I was there, thank god. Thank you god! Yes!
;-o
Definitely suited as the intro to some British TV action drama of the early 1970's.
Hammersmith Sneakers club o a Monday or Tuesday night. Can't remember exactly. Rode there on my PK50 with the Surrey Musketeers. Drank Pernod and black all night. Couldn't dance for shit so didn't. But watched in awe at those who could. Got left behind on the way back home but couldn't get this song out of my head. Comes up on my music player every now and then and I'll jump up and wriggle around a bit.
I know this as Boogaloo Investigator by the Matt Parsons Orchestra
The orchestration of Mike Vickers "On the Brink" is imitated by Ennio Morricone in the soundtrack of the epic film "THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY" with gunfine, whistling and yodelling etc to camouflage the original.....Original is always UNIQUE.
AWESOME
I used to play this with Sounds Incorporated - On The Brink and Blockbusters - Muddy 2.
scooter rally stomper
How old was that song?
Yeah, Mike played sax & guitar with Manfred Mann until about 1965 before going into writing and arranging....he also conducted the orchestra on 'All you need is love' by the Beatles.
SHIT DIS TUNE IS DAM SO DAM GOOD....
Great tune, and while appreciating that this is the original, check out the equally fantastic sax led version by Sounds Incorporated, released as a fantastic double sider with I'm Comin' Through, their 100mph version of Billy's Bag...
