About Lou Johnson
Soul singer from Brooklyn, New York, born in 1941, died May 2019. He was also an accomplished musician on keyboards and percussion. Coming from a musical family, he started singing in gospel choirs in his teens, before studying music at Brooklyn College. He learned keyboards and percussion, forming a gospel group, the Zionettes, who recorded for Simpson Records and achieved some local success. Johnson then formed a secular vocal group, the Coanjos, with Tresia Cleveland and Ann Gissendammer, recording "Dance the Boomerang" before Cleveland and Gissendanner left to become the Soul Sisters.
In 1962, Johnson signed as a solo singer with Bigtop Records, run by the Hill & Range music publishing company in the Brill Building. There, he met the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, who wrote Johnson's first single, "If I Never Get to Love You". Neither that song nor his second record, "You Better Let Him Go

Great song , great voice , got this from a second hand record shop many years ago good to hear it again
Rest In Peace, Burt Bacharach ?????
Simply the best version. RIP Burt Bacharach.
Rest in Peace Mr. Bacharach.
I still have the single. RIP Burt Bacharach
To Mod Zeb who said Cilla Black murdered "Anyone who had a Heart" (Shit in your shoes) Cilla's was the best version by a mile......
I don't know about more popular I never even heard about this guy it's not bad but give me Dionne Warwick please
For me this is the best and most powerful version
Heard this on Mad Men ?
Mad men brought me here. I was today years old when I heard this original version of this song. Damn
Background vocals by Dee Dee Warwick
Fantastic ?❤
This is one of the best pop songs ever. Dionne's version is great, no question. But Lou Johnson's is the original and is absolutely perfect. What a confection by Bachrach and David. I consider this version canonical in their ouvre.
This song would be perfect for an analog horror series.
This original slaughters the remake from the 1980's
RIP Lou Johnson the incomparable underrated soul legend. This is the definitive version that Sandie Shaw is not.
I'm here because of Mad Men. Great version by Lou Johnson. Only know this song by Dionne Warwick..Awesome song!!!!
