Review by Benigno Varillas

Foreign Objects' latest album, Universal Culture Shock Undiscovered Numbers Colors, is a thrilling and thought-provoking musical journey that is sure to captivate listeners. The band, led by guitarist and producer Deron Miller, has created a collection of songs that seamlessly blend elements of various genres, including rock, metal, and experimental music.

From the opening track, "The Underside of Everything," the album sets the tone for an immersive and dynamic listening experience. Miller's intricate guitar work and the powerful vocals of singer Ashley Spurling are complemented by the driving rhythms of drummer Chris Pennie and bassist Brett Bamberger.

Throughout the album, Foreign Objects explores a wide range of themes, from the struggles of modern society to the mysteries of the universe. The lyrics are both poetic and introspective, and Spurling's delivery is raw and emotive.

One standout track is "Bring Me My Shotgun," which features a haunting melody and a driving rhythm that builds to a powerful crescendo. Another highlight is "The Other Side of the Sky," a dreamy and atmospheric track that showcases Miller's talent for crafting intricate and layered soundscapes.

About Foreign Objects

Foreign Objects was and 's first project together, formed in 1994 at the tail end of Deron's previous band, This End Up. They released their first EP in 1995. Deron and Jess were the only permanent members of the band, Deron playing guitar, and bass as well as singing on the record and Jess on drums. When playing live they had various different bassists. When they realized that Foreign Objects wasn't taking off, they switched their style and started recording as . Foreign Objects never broke up in the traditional sense. They continued to record Foreign Objects songs with intentions of making an album at friend John Teague's house between recording Oil material and what would eventually become 's first album, until Deron and Jess halted recording for the project in October 1998 to focus their time on CKY's growing popularity. Two complete demos wound up on their Lifeline EP and the album's 10 tracks were eventually circulated, in instrumental demo form, on various CKY releases and skate/surf videos. In 2003, John Teague built a new recording studio in the house that he had purchased and had done some new mixes of the old Foreign Objects material. This led to Deron finishing the album, adding vocals, overdubs, and lead guitar solos by guitarist . In 2004 the finished Foreign Objects album released as Universal Culture Shock.
