Lard - 70s Rock Must Die

Review by Andrés Herrera

Lard's 70s Rock Must Die is a scorching indictment of the excesses and nostalgia of classic rock. The album is a blistering assault on the stale tropes and tired cliches of the genre, delivered with the venom and wit of Jello Biafra's incendiary lyrics and the muscular, propulsive backing of Ministry's Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker.

From the opening salvo of "Forkboy" to the closing blast of "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!", 70s Rock Must Die is a relentless barrage of searing guitars, pounding drums, and snarling vocals. The songs are fueled by a palpable sense of anger and frustration, railing against the bloated excesses of classic rock and the complacency of its fans.

Yet for all its aggression and vitriol, the album is also a testament to the power of punk and alternative music to challenge and subvert the status quo. Lard's fusion of punk, metal, and industrial elements creates a sound that is both confrontational and innovative, challenging listeners to question their assumptions and embrace new ideas.

Summary by Andrés Herrera

70s Rock Must Die is a provocative and exhilarating album that deserves to be heard by anyone who loves rock music but is tired of the same old tired formulas. Lard's vision of rock 'n' roll as a force for change and rebellion is as relevant today as it was in the 1990s, and this album remains a powerful statement of that vision.

Not entirely convinced that the title song is worth the length. It's ok but joke wears thin. Now if yr looking for Lard you can find it in Volcanus 2000. Very fitting now more than when released. Same with Ballad.Besides the weak title song the other two especially Volcanus is essential Lard. In fact at the moment it's challenging War Pimp Renaissance as my favorite Lard song.
