La STPO - LEmpreinte

Review by Aline Mendes

L'Empreinte, the latest album by La STPO, is an experimental masterpiece that pushes the boundaries of avant-garde music. The album features a unique blend of different musical styles, including jazz, rock, and classical music, creating a sound that is both captivating and challenging.

The album opens with the track "Les Gens Qui Boivent," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The song is a cacophony of sound, with dissonant guitar riffs and chaotic drumming, creating a sense of unease and tension. The album continues with tracks like "L'Empreinte" and "Le Dernier Cri," which feature intricate instrumentation and complex time signatures.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Le Bonheur Est Un Mensonge," which features haunting vocals and a minimalist piano melody. The song is a beautiful and introspective moment on an album that is otherwise filled with chaos and noise.

AKA La Société des Timides à la Parade des Oiseaux (which stand for "The shy people's society at the birds parade"). This six piece (or more) French ensemble has been around since 1984, and operates in the area somewhere between Etron Fou axis and Neo-chamber styles, applying humor, avant-gardisms, ultra high energy theatrics, and a well rounded eclectism. They cover a pretty wide field of material within those realms, using guitars, bass, contrabass, drums, percussions, saxes, mallets and synths, plus a lot of unusual stuff like balafon and viola de gamba.
