Review by Hal Golden

In Concert 390 by John Martyn is a live album that captures the essence of the musician's captivating performances. The album features recordings from various concerts in 1979, showcasing Martyn's unique blend of folk, blues, and jazz music.

The album opens with the upbeat and funky track "Big Muff," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. Martyn's soulful voice and intricate guitar work shine through on tracks like "Solid Air" and "May You Never." The live setting adds an extra layer of energy and emotion to the already powerful songs.

One of the highlights of the album is the 13-minute long "Outside In," which showcases Martyn's improvisational skills and his ability to create a mesmerizing atmosphere with just his voice and guitar.

Ten years ago a saw a little snippet of this video was in the John Martyn documentary 'Johnny Too Bad'. I Tried everywhere to find it but it was nowhere to be found on youtube until now. 'The Dynamic Duo' incredible stuff! John is definitely one of the unsung great guitarists with a sound and style all of his own.

Makes Radiohead seem like they’re just spoiled children who’ve been recording themselves collectively wetting the bed over and over.
