The Original Faces by Helen is a fantastic album that showcases the musical talent of the artist. The album features a mix of electronic and indie-pop sounds that are both catchy and experimental. The vocals are hauntingly beautiful and complement the music perfectly.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "Motorcycle," which has a pulsating beat that will get anyone dancing. Comments
Grouper's Liz Harris' stab at Black Tambourine-esque noise pop and while it's pretty good, it's also annoyingly fractured. Granted, that mostly has to do with the album playing out like a broken tape that's improperly dubbed, but it can be often annoying that the band seems to be hitting on a decent groove or just getting around to going somewhere and the track just sputters and stops. So not bad overall, but the warped tape aspect feels like a bit of a novelty that can't hide fairly standard stock shoegaze/noise pop, especially when that idea's mostly dropped in the second half and things get much less interesting.
