Review by Michael Chew

Projecting Celebration: The Catalyst Years, by Hadley Caliman, is a stunning album that showcases the jazz saxophonist's incredible talent and artistry. The collection features tracks recorded during Caliman's time at the legendary Catalyst Club in Santa Cruz, California, in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The album opens with the upbeat and energetic "Iapetus," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. Throughout the album, Caliman's saxophone work is simply breathtaking, with his solos soaring and weaving through the complex arrangements with ease.

One standout track is "Little One," a beautiful ballad that showcases Caliman's ability to convey emotion through his playing. The track features a stunning piano solo by Mark Levine, which complements Caliman's saxophone perfectly.

Another highlight is "Aquarius," a funky and groovy tune that features some incredible bass work by Robb Fisher. The track is a perfect example of Caliman's ability to blend different styles and genres of music into his own unique sound.
