Review by deborah bernstein

The album "The Favorite Polonaises" by Entremont Plays Chopin is a stunning display of virtuosity and emotion. The pianist Philippe Entremont delivers a powerful performance of some of Chopin's most beloved polonaises, showcasing his technical prowess and artistic sensitivity.

The album features six polonaises, including the famous "Heroic" Polonaise in A-flat major and the melancholic Polonaise in A major. Entremont's interpretation of these works is masterful, capturing the full range of Chopin's musical expression. His playing is precise yet expressive, conveying the passion and drama of the music with ease.

One of the standout tracks on the album is the Polonaise in F-sharp minor, Op. 44, which features a hauntingly beautiful melody that builds to a thrilling climax. Entremont's interpretation of this work is particularly moving, conveying the full range of emotions that Chopin intended.

Ive heard Entrement 3 times in concert over the last 3 decades.
He is a superb pianist. Sadly underappreciated. The clarity of his technique and his understanding of the phrasing of the language of music is incomparable. Thanks for this fine video.

I grew up listening to Sir Entremont and even saw him play in Portland when I was a teenager, I must say he is quite dynamic in performance and sheer personality!!!!

Wow! I played this work and and enjoy listening to many others perform it as well. Entremont's performance is very refreshing. It is clearly presented and has some great touches of rubato that I don't hear so much from more recent performances, excellent though those performances may be in other ways. Just don't get the very unfair, negative comments posted here. Have to imagine these folks are envious on Entremont's obvious pianistic and overall musically expressive abilities.
I almost wish I could go back in time and be privileged to hear Chopin himself play this. Could he have played with this much strength and volume? He was consumptive and by accounts not well and the pianos of that day didn't have the volume of modern instruments. Would this have been the kind of playing he had in mind? I do like Maestro Entremont's performance but just wondering.
