The last 7 seconds of the song always sounds creepy, It makes me think of l all the catastrophes, poverty and death that the decade was remembered for.
bravo prof!
We will never see this type of musicianship ever again…peace and power to the ancestors ✊???

Why wasn't I born in those ages?
Incredible! I hope that this and other Brunswick recordings are being safely preserved. Just classic!

Gorgeous ;D
El hombre que nació en el siglo XIX
One of the most anthemic sides of its era and beyond, this swinging -- and strutting -- record displays the Ellington band in all its singular majesty -- and it's cookin' from the first note out of Wellman Braud's bass. Soloists include Joe "Tricky Sam" Nanton; Harry Carney (obbligato to vocal) and Johnny Hodges. Into the arrangement, Duke inserts touches -- the descending modulatory passage over which Johnny Hodges makes his entrance, the muted brass dissonance against Hodges' solo and the moody, artistic coda -- which, though they scream Ellington, never distract from the message of the title. Finally from the great but underrated Ivie Anderson we have a virtuosic vocal, which indeed swings -- and exhorts. Many have sung this famous number in the ninety years since it appeared, but none has equaled Ivie's take.
So well-produced with '32 technology. There is a sound quality to this era which stands out, even when compared to the new ways.
Love it ❤️❤️

But what enters through my ear holes isnt the same as what gets processed through my soul...
