Review by Henrique Lima Ferreira

The album 1931 1932 by Duke Ellington and his Orchestra is a compilation of some of the most iconic jazz pieces from the early 1930s. The album features Ellington's signature big band sound, with a range of instruments such as trumpets, saxophones, clarinets, and trombones coming together to create a rich and vibrant musical experience.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," which has become an enduring classic of the swing era. The song's catchy melody and infectious rhythm are sure to get listeners tapping their feet and grooving along.

Another highlight of the album is "Mood Indigo," a hauntingly beautiful ballad that showcases Ellington's mastery of mood and atmosphere. The song's lush orchestration and soulful vocals make it a timeless classic that continues to captivate audiences to this day.

The last 7 seconds of the song always sounds creepy, It makes me think of l all the catastrophes, poverty and death that the decade was remembered for.

One of the most anthemic sides of its era and beyond, this swinging -- and strutting -- record displays the Ellington band in all its singular majesty -- and it's cookin' from the first note out of Wellman Braud's bass. Soloists include Joe "Tricky Sam" Nanton; Harry Carney (obbligato to vocal) and Johnny Hodges. Into the arrangement, Duke inserts touches -- the descending modulatory passage over which Johnny Hodges makes his entrance, the muted brass dissonance against Hodges' solo and the moody, artistic coda -- which, though they scream Ellington, never distract from the message of the title. Finally from the great but underrated Ivie Anderson we have a virtuosic vocal, which indeed swings -- and exhorts. Many have sung this famous number in the ninety years since it appeared, but none has equaled Ivie's take.

So well-produced with '32 technology. There is a sound quality to this era which stands out, even when compared to the new ways.
