Review by Mike Villegas

Montmartre Blues by Diamond Five is an exceptional jazz album that brings together a perfect blend of classic jazz and modern sensibilities. The album features the talents of some of the most accomplished jazz musicians in the industry, including Cees Smal on trumpet, Harry Verbeke on tenor saxophone, and Pim Jacobs on piano, among others.

The album opens with the title track "Montmartre Blues," which immediately showcases the band's virtuosity and chemistry. The track is a perfect blend of classic jazz and blues, with some modern twists that make it stand out. This sets the tone for the rest of the album, which features a mix of original compositions and jazz standards.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Round About Midnight," a classic jazz standard that Diamond Five puts their own spin on. The band's interpretation of the track is fresh and exciting, with each musician adding their own unique flair to the arrangement.

Another highlight of the album is "The Nearness of You," a beautiful ballad that showcases the band's ability to create a mood and atmosphere with their music. The track is a testament to the band's versatility and ability to play with emotion and sensitivity.

About The Diamond Five

Famous hard bop band from the Netherlands. Founded by Cees Slinger in 1957 as the resident band of jazz club Sheherazade in Amsterdam. Originally Dick van der Capellen played bass, when the band took over the club in 1958 and van der Capellen could not join after a car accident, Jacques Schols stepped in. The group split in 1964, when pop music became more popular than jazz music.
