Del Shannon - Gemini

Review by Allen Jones

Gemini is a studio album by American singer-songwriter Del Shannon, released in 1966. The album features a unique blend of pop and rock music that showcases Shannon's versatility as a musician. The album's title track, "Gemini," is a standout song that displays Shannon's vocal range and his ability to craft catchy melodies.

The album's opening track, "Thinkin' It Over," is a fast-paced rock song that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Shannon's voice is energetic and powerful, and the instrumentation is tight and well-produced. "Gemini" follows suit with its upbeat tempo and infectious chorus. The song's lyrics are introspective, reflecting on the dual nature of Shannon's personality.

Other standout tracks on the album include "Runaway '67," a reimagining of Shannon's classic hit "Runaway," and "I Go to Pieces," a cover of the Peter and Gordon song. Shannon's version of "I Go to Pieces" is slower and more emotional than the original, highlighting the depth of his vocal abilities.

Del Shannon also contributed to the Psychedelic Sound. With this type of music. He was also playing to a Hippie Audience. It's sad that the man was under rated. He tried changing with the Times. Del Shannon always wanted to be known for his music. He didn't want others to view him as on Oldies Rocker. Perhaps if he would've been managed differently. There might've better results with his musical career as a singer. But History proves he's one of the All - Time Greats.

Did D Shannon write this? He definitely did some of his cooler stuff, well after the hits stopped.

His fan base probably wasn't pleased when he went to this new direction. But I like what he did here.

Nothing comes close to the psych vibe you get from this album from that period in the 1960's, just love this psych masterpiece, one of my fav of all time, so much depth of feeling. it looks like he truly found himself, it should have been a beautiful journey for poor Del, God love the man, with this lp but ''others'' had better plans for poor Del didn't they, and the rest is history ain't it.
This is in my fav top 5 albums of ALL TIME!!

del adapted much better to the psychedelic era than say four seasons or rick nelson but this album got little or no airplay on new York stations. (I was 15 in '67 and glued to fm/am radio). I didn't know this record existed until about ten years after its release when "thinking it over" appeared on a double album of hits, misses and b-sides. although out-of-character I liked it. I heard the entire album round '04, a tragically overlooked minor masterpiece. some lyrics are dated, campy, but the music is very well-crafted, unique, doesn't "owe a debt" to anyone.

When I got this album The Further Adventures of Charles Westover I just knew Del had gone into territory he should not have gone into.  Boy was I wrong!  This album is a good psychedelic and alternative album of the time and holds up well.
Think of the Zombies ..Odyssey and Oracle (not quite that good) but it should have more listens.  In retrospect he helped Brian Hyland with Gypsy Woman and that was a big hit.  Good listen I love Gemini.
Seriously who the fuck is Tyler and why is his future odd?
