You said it yourself Not Sure why this would be a issue.....the file said both name and you say one name...it both of their song anyway as is this song, beside some people would not believe you OR I anyway!!..when you got someone to listen to a Ray Stevens song from the early 60's about Popeye and Olive Oyl and say I don't believe this is Ray?? it because it was when he was pop singer and that person think you are lying or mistaken on the artist because of what they hear from them now or lately

Tom T Hall is the writer....he one of my faves writer, no one write like he does and glad he get credit for this song and others like Dropping Out Of Sight for Bobby Bare and all those for himself and I bet some people don't know he wrote The Pool Shark that was a hit for Dave Dudley...I loved to have a beer or two with him years ago, but at least I got to shake his hand

You can contact Tom T. Hall's office and you will find that "Return To Harper Valley" was written and LISTED as Tom T. Hall as sole writer. On the album and single, he is listed as sole writer (Hallnote BMI) He is a very kind person and those are his ideas and story. Not sure why this would even be an issue. I was in Nashville working for Ms. Riley when this song was recorded. She gives him total credit on the song. I always enjoyed this version by Dee Mullins.

May be so, but she was listed as co-writer of "Return To Harper Valley" that what happens when a artist change a few thing here and there in the song, first they had to get his permission due to copyrights
so there is still more to the pancake since no matter what you do there is two side to one! and since it could been her idea not to re-record the song and her idea to call him she still listed as co -writer

Tom T. Hall DID write "Return To Harper Valley." She was in the studio and had room for one more song and someone mentioned she re-record Harper Valley and she felt that has been done so many time already so they called Tom and asked what he thought the people from Harper Valley would be doing today (1985) and he called back and hour or so later and had written "Return To Harper Valley"
It good! Jeannie release a up to date 20 years later verison that she wrote herself title Return To Harper Valley, it had a good idea (mostly same tune) but I think they should have ask the original write of the song Tom T. Hall to write it lol
