David Grier's album Freewheeling is a masterful display of bluegrass guitar playing. The album features 12 tracks, each showcasing Grier's unique blend of technical skill and emotional depth. The opening track, "Farewell Blues," sets the tone for the album with its driving rhythm and intricate fingerpicking. Other standout tracks include "Big Sandy River," which features some of Grier's most impressive solo work, and "Black Mountain Rag," a classic bluegrass tune that Grier makes his own with his virtuosic playing.

Throughout the album, Grier's playing is both precise and soulful, and his ability to shift seamlessly between fast-paced runs and delicate melodies is truly impressive. The album also features some excellent accompaniment from other musicians, including Stuart Duncan on fiddle and Rob Ickes on dobro.
