Go home and get your fucking shine box #GoodFellas #BillyBatts
Hal Blaine's thunderous drumming kinda grabs ya by the cogliones, huh? ?
The second best 60's girl group; Ronettes the best of course.
I always dreamed the boy I loved would come along
And he'd be tall and handsome, rich and strong
Now, that boy I love has come to me
But he sure ain't the way I thought he'd be
He doesn't look like a movie star
He doesn't drive a Cadillac car
He sure ain't the boy I've been dreamin' of
But he's sure the boy I love
Let me tell ya now
He'd never be a big business man
He always buys on the installment plan
He sure ain't the boy I've been dreamin' of
But he's sure the boy I love
When he holds me tight
Everything's right
Crazy as it seems
I'm his, whatever he is
And I forget all of my dreams
But everybody knows that he doesn't hang diamonds 'round my neck
And all he's got is an unemployment check
He sure ain't the boy I've been dreamin' of
But he's sure the boy I love
When he holds me tight
Everything's right
Crazy as it seems
I'm his, whatever he is
And I forget all of my dreams
He doesn't hang diamonds 'round my neck
And all he's got is an unemployment check
He sure ain't the boy I've been dreamin' of
But he's sure the boy I love
But he's sure the boy I love (oh oh oh, yeah)
But he's sure the boy I love (oh oh oh, yeah)

But he's sure the boy I love (oh oh oh, yeah

I noticed something interesting, this record may have been one of the first batches to be released. The label # is 109X, later batches have the label # as 109 with no X. After He's a Rebel became a hit Phil wanted to dump his business partner, Lester Sill. To fulfill legal obligations, Spector had to share royalties on the next 2 Crystals releases. This release would be #109X, the next release would be #109, thinking he could get out of paying Sill for both releases. But the judge said no. So Phil instead resorted to the release of the notorious (Let's Dance) The Screw chicanery, label #111. Phil knew the next release, Da Doo Ron Ron would be a smash hit! So he successfully kept his ex-partner from receiving any royalties from it. (This is my own speculation).
The key to this song beyond the Phil Spector production are the absolutely beautiful lyrics.. Although they appear to be simple they are in fact very deep. One of my all time favorite songs through all decades and genres.

No more shines, Billy.
Like fuckin mirruhs.
A toast! Salude!
Who would’ve thought Phil Spector came from the Bronx right off Elder Ave bet. Watson Av & Bruckner Blvd and gone to Monroe HS before moving to California Of course it’s way before my time but that was my grandmother’s’ neighborhood before moving to Morris Park by Jacobi? in the late 50’s ?? ?
In loving memory of Billy Batts.
