Perpetual Penance, the latest album by Coffins, is a brutal and unyielding display of death-doom mastery. From the opening track "Here Comes Perdition" to the closing moments of "The Vacant Pale Vessel," Coffins delivers a crushing assault of heavy riffs, thunderous drums, and guttural vocals.
The album's production is raw and unpolished, which only adds to the raw power of the music. The guitar work is particularly impressive, with a mix of crushing riffs and haunting melodies that add depth and texture to the songs.
Lyrically, Perpetual Penance explores themes of death, decay, and despair, with tracks like "The Tranquil End" and "Hour of Execution" painting a bleak picture of the human condition. Yet there is a sense of catharsis in the music, a release of pent-up aggression and frustration that leaves the listener feeling invigorated.

About Coffins
Doom / death metal from Tokyo, Japan, formed 1996
Current line up (2015):
UCHINO - Guitar / Vocal
SATOSHI - Drums
TOKITA - Vocal
ATAKE - Bass / Vocal
Ex-members:
NEGISHI - Vocal (1996 - 2000/pre. G.A.T.E.S)
RYO - Vocal
HIRAI - Bass (1996 - 2000)
SENTOU - Bass (2003 - 2005/pre. FUNERAL MOTH)
KOREEDA - Bass / Vocal (2006 - 2015)
ANIKI - Guitar (1996 - 1998)
YOU - Drums
The band originally started as COMPROMISE YOU NEED, but was formally renamed into COFFINS by UCHINO and NEGISHI in 1996. After a lot of member changes, YOU joined the band as their drummer in 1999. But, as each member began activities in other bands, COFFINS was stopped in 2000.
In 2003 the band came together again and changed their style to the dark Doom/Death sound, influenced by CELTICFROST or HELLHAMMER. UCHINO and YOU left their other projects in order to concentrate on their work with COFFINS. SENTOU joined as the new bass player. They released two demo CDrs in 2003 and 2004, most of which formed the base to their first regular full length album Mortuary in Darkness in 2005.
They also toured and played several gigs in Japan.
In December 2005, SENTOU left the band for musical differencies and was replaced by KOREEDA (TRIKORONA/ex. CURTAIN RAIL). This line-up recorded their 2nd album THE OTHER SIDE OF BLASPHEMY.
Perpetual Penance is a must-listen for fans of extreme metal. Coffins have once again proven themselves to be one of the most powerful and uncompromising bands in the genre, and this album is a testament to their skill and dedication to their craft.
