Charles Bukowski - Hostage

Review by Michelle Cicciarella

Hostage, the album by Charles Bukowski, is a collection of spoken word poetry set to a musical backdrop. The album offers a glimpse into the mind of the legendary writer, as he recites his gritty, unapologetic musings on life, love, and the human condition.

The tracks on Hostage are raw and unfiltered, with Bukowski's trademark wit and cynicism shining through. The album's opening track, "Love," sets the tone for what's to come, as Bukowski delivers a scathing critique of the concept of love, declaring it to be nothing more than a "four-letter word" that's been "overused and abused."

Throughout the album, Bukowski's voice is accompanied by a range of musical styles, from bluesy guitar riffs to haunting piano melodies. The music serves to enhance the emotional impact of Bukowski's words, adding a layer of depth and complexity to his already powerful poetry.
