The Bunch - Spare A Shilling

Review by Tracie Schmidt

Spare A Shilling, the latest album by Bunch, is a true masterpiece of modern folk music. The band's unique sound, which blends traditional Celtic melodies with contemporary rock and pop influences, is on full display throughout the record's 12 tracks.

From the hauntingly beautiful ballad "The Ghost of You" to the upbeat and infectious "Goodbye, My Love", Spare A Shilling is a journey through a range of emotions and musical styles. The album's production is top-notch, with every instrument and vocal part perfectly balanced and mixed.

Bunch's songwriting is also a standout feature of the album, with lyrics that are both heartfelt and thought-provoking. The band's ability to tell stories through their songs is truly impressive, and listeners will find themselves fully immersed in the tales they weave.

This is Ian Shirley from RC and I am so proud to have put this one out - amazing compilation of demos, 3 stonking singles and live tracks. The Bunch were a wonderful blue eyed soul band really and this one gives the later wondrous Dexy's a run for their money! Spare A Shilling (well £19.99) includes the rare psych two fister Looking Glass Alive and Spare A Shilling that is worth £200 on its own! Finally, I let James Sherry - his dad formed the band and was their tub thumper -- do the liner notes and they are FANTASTIC as are the pictures in the gatefold sleeve!

I'm starting to think that this song is narrated from the father's perspective. It's about a father who's daughter is growing up into a pretty, confident young lady.

It's a british press, and thats how they produced their 45's, so you could play them on them tiny sticks. But, you can pop them out, pop pop, and now your record is worth a hell of a lot less, but, you can play it on your old RCA stack em up player. If you like pre-59 sounds WTF are you listening to The Bunch for??? No offence! I keed I keed ;-)
