Bracken - Eno About The Need

Review by Rendy M.S.

Eno About The Need is the latest album by Bracken, a British musician who has been active in the electronic music scene for over a decade. The album is a 10-track collection of atmospheric, experimental electronic soundscapes that showcase Bracken's unique approach to music production.

The album opens with "The Nightcrawler," a slow-building track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Layers of synths, samples, and percussion create a haunting, otherworldly atmosphere that is both eerie and captivating. From there, the album moves through a variety of moods and textures, from the glitchy, percussive "Moths" to the dreamy, atmospheric "Ghostly."

Throughout the album, Bracken's production skills are on full display. He expertly blends a variety of electronic and acoustic sounds to create a rich, textured sound that is both organic and synthetic. His use of found sounds and field recordings adds an extra layer of depth and complexity to the music, creating a sense of place and atmosphere that is truly immersive.

Notes

  • In March 2007 Bracken issued Eno About The Need, a double vinyl LP in an edition of exactly one copy. Since that time, the LP has been circulating around the globe, being passed from listener to listener. The hope was that it would one day return, covered in graffiti, dust and scratches, with a few stories to tell. The LP did indeed come back, semi-destroyed, in June 2008.
  • The majority of the audio was originally salvaged from already decaying tape loops - sounds which were grainy and otherworldly - and it was hoped that as the record degraded and became warped and scratched, the listeners would unwittingly contribute towards the final record.
  • The re-issue set comprises of a CD transfer mastered from the vinyl and a full colour booklet illustrating the artistic contributions made by the people who looked after the record. It is housed in a handmade, stamped and numbered recycled card sleeve and is strictly limited to 500 copies worldwide.
  • This record has been released in a worldwide edition of only one copy. The hope is that the benevolent, hip-to-the-idea interested parties will slowly but surely pass this record around the world to one another – a chain album if you will, with some nightmare logistics to boot. The record will be released (sent to someone) on 12th March 2007 and then it’s journey from country to country, needle to needle, begins. There is no ownership involved, no commercial considerations. In 2008 released on CD by Ears Hoping.
