Review by Sam Adams

Live At The Café Au Go Go by Blues Project is an electrifying album that captures the essence of the band's live performances in the 1960s. The album features a collection of blues, rock, and folk songs that showcase the band's exceptional musicianship and undeniable stage presence.

The album kicks off with the upbeat and soulful "I Want to Be Your Driver," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The band's rendition of "Back Door Man" is a standout track, with its gritty vocals and driving rhythm section. The album also features a stunning acoustic version of "The Way My Baby Walks," which highlights the band's versatility and musical range.

One of the album's strengths is the way in which it captures the energy and excitement of a live performance. The audience's cheers and applause are audible throughout the album, adding to the overall atmosphere and sense of occasion. The band's raw and unfiltered sound is also a testament to their authenticity and dedication to their craft.

So glad to find this on the Internet.  When I first started playing the guitar, my older brother brought this album home.  I always loved it, and didn't understand why they wouldn't play it on the radio.    Great to see actual video on the Internet!!

No doubt they were inspired by Little Walter's "My Babe." They came up with another fine song.

Danny Kalb's guitar work was way ahead of the curve in 1966. Riffs play in my mind 50 years on... greatfinding this.

Inspired by Charley Patton > written by Willie Dixon > recorded most notably by Howlin' Wolf, Blues Project, and Cream. What a great song. I like Danny Kalb's guitar work on this version. I looked this up because Danny Kalb passed away yesterday - RIP Danny, thanks for your passion.

Funny that some people who post tracks can't be bothered getting the title spelled correctly, ' Goin Down Louisiana' from Live at The Cafe Au Go Go (1966)
Probably the first album that made me realize the stuff I'd been listening to all my life on top 40 radio wasn't really real music....it was merely industrial product.....now this was real music...my young ears knew it instinctively.....

I am a big fan of this band. They were pioneers. Besides two of the boys were from my hometown of Mt. Vernon, NY. Dig it.

Danny Kalb was the cousin of my buddy. We caught this set. Sadly, just as they were about to breakout on the West Coast, somebody gave acid to Danny and totally ducked him up.

Louisiana named after LouisXIV of France
We took the Eastern Shuttle (remember that?) down from Boston and hit the NYC club scene, and then tried to pick up some expensive hookers, who brushed us aside like the dumb BU students that we were....

I first heard the Blue Project at Steve Paul’s Scene (RIP and much missed) in, I think, December 1966, shortly after their second album was released. Given the strange seating at The Scene I actually sat behind Kooper, so I saw what he was doing which was amazing. Kalb was so intense and electric he made whole place just hum. Koop's harmony organ on "Flute Thing"; was just brilliant. Altogether it was an unforgettable experience.
“A bunch of Jewish white kids wanting to play the blues...” some jerk wrote. Jewish and white seems redundant and in any event both descriptors are entirely irrelevant and smell of ignorant bigotry (which is also redundant). Anyway, the first BP line-up included Tommy Flanders who I do not believe is Jewish, as if that mattered. Also, The BP were not exactly “kids” either. At the time of their first album they were no younger than the Beatles when they first came here.
The BP did not try to play the blues, they played the blues.
