Bill Dixon - In Italy Volume One

Review by Nick Schiano

In Italy Volume One by Bill Dixon is a captivating jazz album that showcases the artist's masterful trumpet playing and experimental approach to the genre. The album, which was recorded live in Italy, features six tracks that range from atmospheric soundscapes to more upbeat and rhythmic pieces.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Lament," a hauntingly beautiful piece that showcases Dixon's ability to create a sense of emotional depth with his trumpet playing. The track is slow and mournful, with Dixon's trumpet floating above a lush bed of strings and percussion.

Another highlight of the album is "Motorcycle '66," a more upbeat and jazzy track that features Dixon's trumpet playing in a more frenetic and improvisational style. The track is driven by a propulsive rhythm section and features some impressive solos from Dixon and the other members of the band.
