This song was surely their magnum opus. Absolutely brilliant!
Glasgow, city of amazing history
Okay so, in school I am doing a act called Passing Places, this song plays in it, can somine clarify if this song is for passing places, and where to watch the act Passimg Places on Yt?
I had this on vinyl when it came out and I think Side A stayed on the turntable for WEEKS.. that is one of the greatest album sides of all time. The whole album is great but wow... And Steeltown has one of the best build-up beginnings ever. By the time the first word is spoken you're drawn in entirely.
Per tweet.."..1st heard 'Steeltown' in the antebellum grunge mid 80's at Two Bells Tavern, BellTown, Seattle. Slamming at night, beer bloom, diy neon, evening tobbaco blue ☁️, w/ Nofsker playing Mehitabel prancing across the countertop and #waltCrowley & typewriter Archie.. a glorious time.
"Grim as the reaper with a heart like hell"
Love this album, born in the Netherlands living in Australia since "93 still this is my favourite album of al times!
A woefully unappreciated band. World-class musicianship with a talented and charismatic front man. They committed to their sound, perhaps to the detriment of commercial success, but it's all the more reason to love them. For the uninitiated, listen to their entire first album The Crossing. Fucking brilliant.
An amazing song, an excellent album and, of course, a brilliant band...BIG COUNTRY ??????
Awesome song, awesome band. Reminds me of my Comprehensive school days. Big Country, Simple Minds, U2....they were untouchable. Modern bands and music have nothing on these bands. Passion, raw energy and meaningful songs.

Big Country ?????
the worlds most underrated band
Struggling to think of a better song intro, love the dip at 0.45
Saw them live at Manchester Apollo, brilliant, better than Bowie live
Big Country fans are a family. As an American, I'm truly grateful I discovered them. Steeltown is the best unsung album in rock history. Every song is pure poetry and deeply soul-stirring.
So glad I was born in the 70itys to have all this amazing music presented to me as a young man..its just different for generations after... they will feel there music is great too...that's life..
Enjoy music ..
Stay alive..as Stuart always says..Rip

This is my dream song mazing song big country songs are the best
The opening chords to this song and tony`s driving bass, always makes the hairs on my neck stand on end. The best and most underrated band ever!!!!!
When u can hear heart n integrity in this man's voice n lyrics it's a rare seering beauty! Xx
Seethe German 90s movie “Stalingrad” about Operation Barbarossa invasion of Russia-this Song epitomizes the heady expectations, and later the inhuman suffering and final defeat of the over confident Third Reich-inspired by the Flame of the West!
I remember
Great song, It just popped up in my mix list. I live in Pittsburgh,pa and I am a 3rd generation union steelworker. Many people where I live can relate to these lyrics. The area has been hit hard the last 30+ years with mills closing. I always thought Big Country was a super underrated band in the US, this song and Restless Natives kick ass.
