The Beatles - Os Reis Do Ié Ié Ié

Review by Donnacha MacGloinn

Os Reis Do Ié Ié Ié, the album by the Beatles, is a classic masterpiece that showcases the band's versatility and creativity. The album features some of the most iconic songs of the 60s, including "Help!", "Ticket to Ride", and "Yesterday". The Beatles' harmonies and melodies are unmatched, and their songwriting skills are on full display throughout the album.

The album opens with the upbeat and catchy "Help!", which sets the tone for the rest of the record. The band's energy is infectious, and their harmonies are tight and polished. The album also features some of the Beatles' more experimental tracks, such as "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" and "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)", which showcase the band's willingness to push boundaries and try new things.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Yesterday", which is one of the most covered songs in history. The song's simple melody and poignant lyrics have made it a timeless classic, and it remains one of the Beatles' most popular songs to this day.

Notes

  • Early 70s reissue with plastic bag sleeve ("sandwich cover") and yellow / 'gold haze' labels. Mono.
  • The title translates to "The Kings of Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!" (that's the way rock and roll was nicknamed in Brazil in the early 60s). The liner notes are translated into Portuguese.
  • Brazilian version of "A Hard Day's Night".
  • Copied info from existing release with different blue label; added distinguishing images. Label colour is actually purple, more like the blurry image photo.
  • Top-left corner of rear cover has credits not seen on other versions.
  • This is likely the original release; the later blue label has 'MONO' instead of 'ALTA FIDELIDADE'
  • Another version of this LP has a 'star' type label which also appeared on much later Odeon releases & reissues.
  • "Made in Uruguay" on center labels outer ring text
  • The center label pressed on side A is from the Odeon 31C 064 4115 "Rubber Soul" album.
  • Light blue w/ stripped band Odeon label ℗ 1974, manufactured and distributed after 1978.
  • White-Blue Odeon Label.
  • Late 60s release.
  • Repress with "MONO" on labels.
  • Brazilian Re-issue 1985 - Light Yellow Label.
  • Undated reissue released 1976/77. Original (p)1974 reissue Os Reis Do Ié, Ié, Ié!
  • Brazilian version of "A Hard Day's Night". 1965 repress with "MONO" on labels instead of "alta fidelidade".
  • Blue labels with silver lettering, with "P1964" on left and "Alta Fidelidade" on right.
  • Back cover without "Embalagem Patenteada M.U. 4149" (Packing Patented).
  • The title of this Brazilian LP is NOT a translation of "A Hard Day's Night", which is the title of both the film and LP in English-speaking countries. Instead, there is an interesting story behind it. In Brazil, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" became so popular that was nicknamed "Yeah Yeah Yeah" music (ié, ié, ié). The Beatles themselves were nicknamed "The Kings of Yeah Yeah Yeah", and this is how the title of this LP translates.
  • Top-left corner of rear cover has credits not seen on other versions (Embalagem Patenteada M. U. - 4149) on a square Over the trademark Odeon.
  • Blue label has "ALTA FIDELIDADE" but there is no date on the label. the later blue label has 'MONO' instead of "ALTA FIDELIDADE". Another version of this LP has a 'star' type label which also appeared on much later Odeon releases & reissues. On the label it's written "iê, iê, iê" instead of "ié, ié, ié"
  • 1st Pressing of "Os Reis Do Iê, Iê, Iê". Odeon blue label with "Alta Fidelidade".
  • Liner notes in Portuguese.
  • Brazilian version of ''A Hard Day's Night.
  • The title translates to ''The kings of yeah, yeah, yeah!''. The liner notes are translated into Portuguese.
  • Blue Odeon label. Comes with inlay with The Beatles Collection. Early 80s reissue. Fake stereo throughout.
  • Cream yellow center labels. The sleeve notes are translated into Portuguese.
  • "Indústria Brasileira (p)1985 Disco é Cultura" on rear sleeve
  • ℗ 1974
  • Blue Odeon label.. Early 1980s reissue

Me diga Por Que

Me diga por que você chora
E por que você mentiu para mim (x2)

Olha, eu lhe dei tudo que eu tinha
Mas você me deixou sentado sozinho
Precisou me tratar tão mal?
Tudo que faço é abaixar a cabeça e reclamar

Me diga por que você chora
E por que você mentiu para mim (x2)

Se houve algo que eu disse ou fiz
Me diga o que e eu me desculpo

I’ve always loved this scene. Especially when they play cricket. John bowling, Paul batting, Ringo the umpire and George the keeper taking the spiralling catch I think.

In the scene where The Beatles are running and playing in the field, John Lennon was not there. He was away promoting his new book "John Lennon: In His Own Write." A body double filled in for John, and close-up shots of him were edited into the scene later.

When "Can't buy me love" and every other song played during my first seeing the Beatle's Fab - 4 'A Hard Day's Night' in 1964 - I could not see the movie screen because out of no where a sea of SCREAMING young women jumped up and danced a mass that formed perfect silhouette shadows of long-finger-nails and long wavy hair. Once the music stopped - they all disappeared below the theatre seats until the next Beatles song and another sudden screaming session blocking the screen. All good fun back then.
