Review by William Eric Paule

Slip n Slide by Babyface Jay Featuring Preshus & MC Tek is an album that has received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. The album features a mix of hip-hop and R&B tracks, with Babyface Jay's smooth vocals and Preshus & MC Tek's rap verses.

The album's standout tracks include "Slide," "On the Low," and "Ride or Die," which showcase the trio's ability to create catchy hooks and memorable verses. However, some critics have criticized the album for its lack of originality and for relying too heavily on generic beats and lyrics.

About Babyface Jay Featuring Preshus & MC Tek

Babyface Jay, born in East London, started his music career at the age of 12. He was mcing with his older cousin. His neighbour from Soul Group (Loose Ends) heard him once and asked him to dj at her own party. In 1991 Jay and his cousin got into the rave hardcore and early house scene. They were playing cassettes recorded by Top Buzz and Kenny Ken at Linford studios and Jay would practice mcing over the beats. They really got into the early Jungle scene and his cousin held jamming sessions where Devious D and Steve Lloyd (MOS) and Richi Fingers would drop by. After a while Jay met Ron Tom (Sugababes original manager), who also was managed soul singer Don-e (with top 10 in the charts), and started going to their studio and was inspired to learn production. In the meantime, he was mcing at "Return to the Basics" at the Island club in Ilford where Linden C also had his promotions. Here Charlie Brown, Bobby & Steve, Ricky Morisson, Paul Trouble Anderson, Kid Batchelor, Chrissy T and many more would come and he would host and mc on these nights. In 1995 Jay started djing on a pirate station called Deja Vu sharing a show with Tony C. Also Mike RuffCutt Lloyd and Pied Piper was on the same pirate station. Jay would be "on call" and it was here that TJ Cases heard him and they started working together. TJ could not believe that Jay was only still 17. He had a remix out on a garage tune out at the time on Logic records and he was "blowing up" with his own productions. Jay became the "second ear" in the studio, following the productions through from mastering, pressing, printing the labels and finally distributing the vinyls himself to all the record shops in London and delivering them to all the garage djs personally. Through this he met many contacts including The Dreem Team, EZ, Norris da Boss Windross, Pied Piper, Ramsey & Fen, Mystic Matt, Mike Ruffcut lloyd, Masterstepz, Daniel Ward and many more. After he left Cut & Play, he really wanted to start his own productions seriously, went to college to get his qualifications, unleashed his ideas on Delroy Murray who had kindly let him use his studio. Delroy had created Tongue & Cheek signed to London Records and also was 2nd band member in group Total Contrast in the 1980s and saw Jay had potential in bucketloads. Delroy also managed nights at the Hackney Empire and supported his early production career. Jay started productions with David Doyle, they had up to 8 garage releases through various distributors. Their track called "Get Ready"out on Garage Label Moist Records owned by Dj Lewi, which ended up on The Pure Garage Comp Called Bass & Breakbeats Mixed By Dj EZ, later hooked up with Don-e and remixed some tracks with him. He also worked with Kele La Roc on two projects and did a remix with Tony C put out on Rise Records in Italy called "Let the sunshine in

Summary by William Eric Paule

Slip n Slide is a decent effort by Babyface Jay, Preshus & MC Tek, but it falls short of being a classic hip-hop or R&B album. Fans of the genre may find some enjoyable tracks on the album, but it is unlikely to be remembered as a standout release in the music world.
