Axis - Flame Burns On

Review by Robert Murphy

Axis' album "Flame Burns On" is a stunning display of musicianship and creativity. The band's musicianship is top-notch, with each member contributing their own unique style to create a cohesive and powerful sound.

The album opens with the title track, "Flame Burns On", which immediately grabs the listener's attention with its driving bassline and soaring guitar riffs. The vocals are strong and emotive, adding an extra layer of intensity to the already powerful instrumentation.

Throughout the album, Axis showcases their versatility, moving seamlessly between heavy rock anthems like "Broken Dreams" and more introspective ballads like "Fading Away". The band's ability to create such a range of moods and sounds without sacrificing their signature sound is truly impressive.

One standout track is "Lost in Time", a haunting ballad that showcases the band's softer side. The delicate piano and acoustic guitar work perfectly complement the heartfelt vocals, creating a truly moving listening experience.

Quite decent tracks with guitarist Mick Tucker and renowned keyboard player Paul McGuire actually gives a pretty strong atmosphere. The vocals are clearly quite average, but the talent of Dave Little and Mick Tucker gives a pleasant feeling. Guitar harmony in this amazing reminiscent of one of the early 80's Iron Maiden, while the extreme echo effect on the vocals - a nice touch. In general, this is quite a pleasant, slightly soft, early "New Wave of British Heavy Metal."
